The Rambler

(alias Brock Gruffy)

I always enjoy my Ramblings around our lovely little village, but this is the time of year I like the best. I take a special pleasure in putting on my warm overcoat, wrapping a thick scarf around my neck, and setting out on one of my walks.

This morning I began by battling my way against a strong wind, down to the River Ferny. It was swollen by the overnight rain, flowing fast and steely grey. Mr Windygill, the Ferryman, took me across to the other side. We narrowly missed colliding with a fallen tree which was being swept swiftly down the river. It would have been like being hit by the Fern Hollow express train. A LUCKY ESCAPE!

Having got safely across to the other side, I continued on my way past the fire station into Windy Wood. The trees are in full autumn colour - red, gold, yellow and orange - and the air is filled with that wonderful autumnal smell. I stopped for a moment to knock out my pipe against a tree and to admire the view. After a moment or two I began to notice that a smell of burning and clouds of smoke began to rise up around me. Looking down, I saw that I had started a small fire in the fallen leaves. In a great panic I began to stamp on the flames. This time I managed to put it out. ANOTHER LUCKY ESCAPE!

Quite an exciting ramble, I thought.

Immortalised...

Sculptress and ceramic artist, Donnas Peterson, recently visited Fern Hollow and has immortalised a number of our residents by rendering their likenesses in ceramic figurines. Fierce rivalry and jealousy has been noted amongst some residents who have not yet had their likeness created.

Brock Gruffy will be stocking these limited edition figurines in his village shop. Readers of this newsletter can purchase them via Donnas's own website:

Retraction

The Fern Hollow Bugle deeply regrets any offence it may have caused to
Lord Trundle by the use of the word 'portly' in an article in our last edition. Lord Trundle is a fine figure of a fox.

We also apologise for questioning how he spends his time, as in 'what does he do at Trundleberry Manor...'.
