Monster in the River

River Monster Caught!

Fern Hollow has been in a state of great excitement since Mr Blodger
spotted a monster in the River Ferny by Trundleberry Manor, and it was
generally agreed that something must be done about it. So it was that a
party of intrepid adventurers under the leadership of Brock Gruffy set
out early yesterday morning to capture the beast.

Two rowing boats were positioned at opposite sides of the river with a
net spread out between them.

"It was all very spooky," said our reporter, Sigmund Swamp. The early
morning mist covered the scene in a ghostly white blanket. The animals
whispered nervously to each other. "It could be ferocious," said Mr
Croaker. "It might eat the lot of us," agreed Farmer Bramble.

Suddenly, the creature was spotted - a great hump, rising out of the
water. The next moment it was caught and thrashing around in the net.

The water seethed and foamed, and the morning air was filled with the
clamour of excited animals calling out to each other.
"Drag it in!"
"Look out, it'll have enormous teeth!"
"Mind it doesn't pull us under!"

Eventually, the exhausted beast was pulled to the river bank and
staggered to its feet. Everyone gasped in amazement. It was Lord
Trundle!

It emerged (no pun intended) that Lord Trundle has been suffering from
overwork. "Trundleberry Manor takes a lot of managing," he assured us.
Apparently, Dr Bushy had advised Lord Trundle to find a way to relax.
"An early-morning dip seemed like a good idea," said the aristocratic
fox. "Just floating around on my back, don't you know."

"Well, the rather portly Lord Trundle's tummy looked just like the back
of a monster in the mist," said Brock Gruffy.

An easy mistake to make? Well, yes, and we imagine that Lord Trundle
will be finding another way to relax. By the way, what does he do at
Trundleberry Manor that he finds so stressful?

The Fire in Windy Wood

Investigations are continuing into who might have started the fire.

"I'm hot on his trail," said P C Hoppit. "We've got to stamp out this sort
of thing."
